3D foliage: Work in progress.

3D foliage: Work in progress.

We spend a lot of time with 3D visualizations and during last few months, we got many requests to render 360 degree panoramas for VR (Google Cardboard, Oculus Rift, or PC/Mac applications). So far, we used some pre-made, purchased  assets for 3D foliage in these images, which were good. It was fast, reliable, but... it wasn't ours. This is our time.

Besides these visualizations, we also provide 3D scenes on our portal and we are planning to fill the portfolio of 3D scenes as much as possible - we would like to bring You everything you could possibly think of. From simple interiors to full aerials. So let's start with small stuff first. We already brought You 3D ferns, 3D lavenders, and now we are working really hard on 3D grass. And by grass we don't mean just a grass blades, but full variety of small plants which can be found on a grass fields, lawns, or meadows. We start with small ones, and will continue with larger ones later on.

On Sunday morning, I went outside to pick up some real foliage suitable for textures, put it on table, narrowed it and did some photoshoot.

After taking several shots for each plant, I imported them to Photoshop and adjusted these RAW files (7000+ pix wide RAW files out of Nikon camera). Once put together on a single UV map, I created Diffuse, Bump, Specular, Transparency and Roughness maps, so the final plants are as realistic as possible. 3D models will be done right after maps are finished - hopefully we will be ready with publishing during this week ;)

We are working with all kinds of leaves: Nice, straight ones and also with old, dead, dry ones to achieve an absolutely perfect imagery.

Even Juliet assisted, but she was sad as we did not allow her to eat our assets that were supposed to be used for photoshooting. It looked juicy and tasty, but... Wait, Juliet!

Right after the shoot, we gave it to her, so she cancelled her murder plans. Or... didn't she?

Nice work! Looking forward to ;)!
I can't decide if I should make it already and solely for V-Ray 3.0 for Rhino ...

Terrain sculpting tools in UE4 provide a very smooth experience and with addition of alpha brushes you can get pretty realistic detail. However sculpting large-scale believable terrains is a time consuming process and you need a keen eye for how the terrain is formed in the real world.
