Realtime adventure continues


Building upon our expertise of architectural visualization, we are always looking for opportunities to develop our skills further and provide our clients attractive solutions to showcase their projects in the best possible way. Naturally we see Unreal Engine as a strong tool that can further enhance the perception of architectural designs. We are currently working on a realistic interactive real time archviz experience built in Unreal Engine. While the state of the project is still a work in progress, we are thrilled to show you some previews and an insight into our processes. After our “Parisian Apartment” project, we have decided to challenge ourselves with an exterior scene, focusing on a symbiosis of architecture and nature. That’s why we picked one of our older scenes - Winter Fairytale as a basis for this project.

As you can see most of the environment is already laid out, while the interior of the cabins is currently being worked on.





One of many advantages of real-time interactivity is the possibility to explore different moods and lighting scenarios very fast. 





What you see are actual screenshots from the UE4 editor. Even though there is a bit of technical overhead involved, the ability to see the scene in an “almost final” quality while being worked on, allows for faster iterations when working on materials, lighting, vegetation and mood, as opposed to offline renderers like V-Ray. While V-Ray is still our go-to rendering solution, we can’t wait to explore more of the possibilities of Unreal Engine and the world of real-time rendering.

3D printed concrete architecture

We had several opportunities to work on visualizations for the projects involving 3D printed buildings. One of them was The Tent, a building meant as a refugee shelter that is quickly erected after a major natural disaster in China.

Terrain sculpting tools in UE4 provide a very smooth experience and with addition of alpha brushes you can get pretty realistic detail. However sculpting large-scale believable terrains is a time consuming process and you need a keen eye for how the terrain is formed in the real world.
